Films That Will Be Nice
Posted by Stephen Fairbanks on March 6, 2010
There’s a selection of films a-coming soon that are making me pang for Ben & Jerry’s Phish Food and that stale cinematic recycled air smell. They are as follows:
Kick-Ass
I’m excited because:
Look at it! It looks amazing! Just look at it!
Green Zone
I’m excited because:
It’s directed by Paul Greengrass and Matt Damon’s in it. That’s worked pretty well so far.
The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo
I’m excited because:
It’s getting ace reviews, and there’s a massive shortage of genuinely great cliché-free thrillers. This might just be that.
I Love You Phillip Morris
I’m excited because:
It’s Jim Carey getting to merge both his limb-flailing funny and his serious acting chops-ness.
Shutter Island
I’m excited because:
I’ve grown to respect Leonardo DiCaprio’s acting-ness, particularly when working under Martin Scorsese. Which is exactly what’s happening here.

Weeeeeee. SO excited for Kick Ass and I Love You Phillip Morris. I still struggle with Jim Carey on occasion. I forgave him a lot when he did Eternal Sunshine ‘cos he was so restrained and thoughtful. It was almost like a different actor. I’m hoping he’s going to bring some of that intelligence.
(although I kinda will always love Ace Ventura Pet Detective a little bit so I’m really talking absolute bullshit here)
Shutter Island was schweeeeet. Really pretty! Wasn’t expecting it to be so beautiful. Not top-draw Scorcese I don’t think. But still definitely worth checking out.
Stuff I’m looking forward to: Iron Man 2, The Losers (which might be terrible but I have a crush on Jeffrey Dean Morgan that will not die so…) The Hurt Locker which is finally getting released here next month and Inception looks fantastic and makes me kinda jizzy every time I see the trailer.
Yeah, Kick-Ass looks super amazing. I really hope it makes some money too.
Inception is another one I’m really looking forward to, the trailer makes it look incredible, and again, I’d developed a fondness for DiCaprio.
Ace Ventura is one of my all-time favourites! It’s just a classic. That and Dumb & Dumber. And also Cable Guy, which people didn’t seem to like as much, which made me love it more.
Strange how Hurt Locker came about ages ago here, and yet Shutter Island still isn’t out. I did like Hurt Locker, I watched it again on DVD recently. It’s quite as good as I wanted it to be though. It seems the improv from the actors amounts to: “Shit! Shit!” and “Fuck yeah!” it comes across as trying to be too macho, and just sounds stupid. I’m not quite sure what the film was trying to say either, other then Jeremy Renner’s character quite likes to ‘live dangerously’ – that’s about all I could take from it.
The Losers sounds quite interesting… did you hear about Danny Boyle’s new film? A true story about a climber who gets trapped under a large bolder for 150 hours and has to put his arm off? Sounds lovely. Not sure when that’s out tho.
Nice Ste. I like this thread. I recently love people spoon feeding me nice new trailers
Just recently? Well, you’re quite welcome.
