Ooh. Now then. Here’s the first teaser trailer for Quentin Tarantino’s new film Inglourious Basterds. And it’s a doozy. It’s been a good while since I can say I’ve been excited about anything Quentin Tarantino has been doing. Kill Bill (vol. 1 and vol.2) were a mess. A big, needlessly long mess… not only were they too long, they were… just too crap. It was nothing more than a multi-million dollar licence for QT’s ego to run wild, creating his [...]

When Actors Go Mental.

Posted by Stephen Fairbanks on February 5, 2009

It must be difficult these days being a rich, handsome, award winning actor – what with all that, er… being rich, handsome and award winning… Cases in point, Christian Bale and Joaquin Phoenix – both, over the last few years, have made the jump from promising acting talent to bona-fide Hollywood A-list. Bale becoming the thinking-man’s ass-kicker with the likes of his phenomenally successful spot as the Batmaaan, and then there’s Phoenix who, not too long ago, got nominated for [...]

Oscar Nominations 2009

Though Heath’s Best Supporting Actor nod wasn’t surprising to anyone. Least of all, [...]

Fever Ray – Album Review

“Some do magic, some do harm…” sings the vocoderly-enhanced Karin Dreijer Andersson on the track I’m Not Done, which acts as a sufficient introduction to her beautiful, peculiar music. For anyone unfamiliar with Karin Dreijer Andersson; she’s what Kate Bush would sound like if she were a morose, malfunctioning Swedish robot. She is also one half of the electro-doom-pop brother/sister duo The Knife, whose 2006 album Silent Shout is regarded by many (including moi) to be one the most beguiling [...]

We film fans are suckers. We may leave the majority of our cinema visits thinking: “Why do I do this to myself?” and in the case of Indy IV: “How can I delete that from my memory?” – yet we still go back, time and time again, ice-cream / popcorn in hand… …grumbling about paying so much… trying graciously not to scream as the idiot behind you kicks your chair and fails so spectacularly to retrieve their last Malteser from [...]
